The Alberta Workers' Health Centre is here to help all workers.
We believe that every worker is entitled to a safe and healthy workplace. We support all workers, both unionized and non-unionized, who need assistance to make their workplaces healthier and safer, or who request help as a result of workplace injuries or illnesses.
We do this by:
- Acting as a point of first contact for workers seeking help
- Providing workers with education and information to help them solve workplace health and safety problems
- Promoting health and safety issues in schools, post-secondary institutions and the community
- Raising public awareness about workplace health and safety issues
Implicit in our work is the recognition that other employment issues cannot be separated from our understanding of workplace health and safety and an embracing of the principles of social and economic justice.
We
are operated by a small full-time staff that takes direction from a
volunteer Board of Directors of working women and men from across the
province.

The Centre was founded in 1983 through donations from a wide range of labour organizations who wanted a centre that could focus its resources on helping all Alberta workers to make their workplaces healthy and safe.
Though our work remains largely focused on helping those workers who do not benefit from belonging to a union, the labour movement in the province continues to proudly sustain us. An increasing proportion of our funding comes from foundation grants, business and individual donations.
The Alberta Workers’ Health Centre is a not-for-profit society and a registered charitable organization. All donations of $20 or more qualify for a charitable tax receipt. Please
contact us for more information about supporting our work.
The Centre adheres to the Ethical Fundraising and Accountability Code.
