Work Plays Schools Program
A Dramatic Approach to Saving Young Lives

"WORK PLAYS gave me a better understanding of things that happen at work and what to do when something inappropriate happens.”
- Grade 11 student, Edmonton

Engaging young workers through professional theatre

Workers under the age of 25 are disproportionately more likely to be injured on the job than are the rest of the population. Of those workers under 25 who are injured in this province, nearly 60 percent were injured during their first six months on the job. Young workers are also less informed about their rights and are more likely to be exploited financially or harassed by their employers.

The Work Plays Schools Program engages young workers through lively, entertaining and thought-provoking professional theatre productions that inform young workers of their responsibilities and rights to a safe and healthy workplace.

We bring the Work Plays Schools Program to Alberta schools FREE OF CHARGE.

The Work Plays Schools Program now offers two plays:

WORK PLAYS by Jane Heather
for High School students
October 18 – November 26, 2010

THAT’S DANGER! by Dave Clarke
for Junior High School students
March - May, 2011 (exact dates TBA)

Each play is followed by a facilitated discussion that explores the issues raised by the performance. Students and teachers are also provided with the resources and tools available for them to exercise their workplace rights.

The Work Plays Schools Program has been seen by approximately 60,000 students since 2003, and is able to reach an additional 12,000 students this year, thanks to support from labour and business organizations and individuals across Alberta, and the Alberta Law Foundation.
